raw wool fleece + Pellets

THE BEST GARDENS GROW FROM INTERDEPENDENCE, NOT INDUSTRY.

what is it?

Raw wool fleece is the natural, unprocessed wool freshly shorn from a sheep, often still containing oils like lanolin, along with dirt and bits of vegetation. In addition to being as-is, raw wool fleece can also be compressed into small pellets. These wool pellets are eco-friendly and used in gardening as a natural fertilizer and moisture-retaining soil additive.

what are the benefits?

1. Wool Pellets Hold Water

When added to gardens or potting soil, they help to reduce watering frequency up to 25%.

2. Wool Pellets Provide Aeration and Porosity

As wool soaks in water, it puffs up and expands helping to increase porosity(oxygen) in the soil. This gives space for roots to spread out and grow becoming deeper and stronger, reducing the need for additives like Perlite.

An 8 oz bag will cover about 15 square feet and is enough for at least 6 gallons of soil if used as directed.

3. Wool Pellets are a Slow Release Fertilizer

Wool Pellets have a fertilizer value of 9-0-2 NPK, plus they have calcium, magnesium, iron, sulfur, and other micronutrients in just the right amounts.

4. Wool Pellets are All-Natural, Organic, Sustainable, and Renewable

They are a safe and fully renewable way for you to provide the nutrients your plants need.

5. Wool Pellets Repels Slugs and Snails

Wool Pellets are a repellent to slugs, snails, and weeds when placed around the base of plants and mixed into the soil.

how can you use it?

1. Mulch

Wool’s natural ability to hold and wick moisture also happened to make wool mulch an excellent choice for stopping weeds and protecting plants. The structure of the wool can hold a significant amount of moisture without becoming soaked. This is perfect for plants in dry areas that need more consistent access to water.

2. Compost

Used as a brown in composting (good composting divides materials into greens and browns), sheep’s wool biodegrades slowly. Containing both nitrogen and potassium sheep wool enriches compost. At the same time its ability to retain water allows for continued microbe growth which is an essential part of good composting.

3. Hanging basket and plant pot lining

When placed within the basin of a hanging wire basket or pot , the wool effectively contains the soil needed to grow the flowers while also holding together along the exterior. In addition it provides extra insurance in holding water for the plants and acts as non-burning slow release fertilizer over time. You can also put it at the bottom of your houseplant or seedling pots to do just the same.

4. Fertilizer

Mix ½ cup pellets with 1 gallon of soil for use in garden and flower beds or container inside and out. Or Sprinkle pellets around existing plants and push or work into the soil.

Rose west will begin selling raw wool fleece and pellets beginning in June 2025.
